Got your flax seed and ready to join in with us growing flax for linen?
Plant your seed in late March/April into well drained and raked soil. It can be stepped or raked in. Plant 2cm apart, in rows 20cm spaced or simply scatter. Your 10 grams of seed is sufficient for 1 square metre.
It may need a little water the first three weeks, until germinated – then you just wait around 100 days!
It’s ready to pull once the flowers have faded and the seed bolls have formed and are turning brown.
Ripple (remove) the seeds if you want to save it to plant or eat.
Hang the tied flax bundles up to dry or start the retting process in the field or a tank.
