The seeds are being sown… here in Cardiff, Wales, for community made linen. Artist cat lewis started growing flax for linen at Global Gardens Project in 2021, as part of the Making n Mending Club that she facilitates.
2026 if her 6th year of growing, and it’s getting bigger each year – in size and interest.
I’ve previous years’ crops stored in various states of processing, so that I can share the whole process at community sessions, from pulling to spinning!
I now spin linen yarn, it’s a long, slow but wonderful process.
You can join in by picking up your own packet of our saved St Fagan’s flax seed, come to Making n Mending Club sessions, there’s seed shares around Cardiff or from Waterloo Tea cafe on Whitchurch Road.
There’s seed in the packs for 1m square. Follow the instructions and tag us #Llieinwe. There’ll be community flax processing and spin sessions through year, so you can go all the way from seed to yarn.
