flax seeding

We’re planting… better late than never! After such a wet April, the field at St Fagan’s wasn’t ploughed until two weeks ago. So we gathered troops and have done two seed sowing sessions so far. This year we’re planting 200m sq – about double last year.

We have three different seed lots:

1. 9m planted with saved seed from St Fagan’s 2022 crop (we had around 500g). This also did the 2m sq little plot at Global Gardens, which is up and looking good after 8 days. origin Flaxlands.

2. Just 4 rows planted with seed saved from Global Gardens 2021 crop, origin Flaxlands.

3. The rest has new seed 2023 from Flaxlands.

It was hot, hard but rewarding work. We’re working the land in a non invasive, simple way. We remove as many stones as possible and re-use them to mark out the plantimg and path areas. Also a little surface weeding. Now we need rain 🙏🏻
